Short answer
The right tube fiber laser must hold, rotate, support and cut the actual pipes and profiles without creating unacceptable distortion, marking or setup time. Start with a representative part family and verify chuck range, support strategy, usable length, software, loading and acceptance criteria against that work.
Define the workpiece family
List round, square, rectangular and open profiles separately. Record outside dimensions, wall thickness, material, longest stock, heaviest piece, smallest batch and required holes, slots, mitres or bevels. Irregular or open sections may need different support and clamping from closed tube.
Check handling before cutting speed
Long or flexible stock can sag, whip or move during rotation. Review loading, unloading, front and rear supports, remnant handling and the safe working envelope. A fast source does not remove a handling bottleneck.
Prove the result
Run trials on representative profiles. Record dimensional result, cut-face condition, heat effect, distortion, cycle time, setup time and scrap. Agree which dimensions and features will be checked during acceptance.
Decision inputs
• Profile shapes and dimensional range
• Material and wall-thickness range
• Stock and finished-part length
• Batch mix and output target
• Required cut features and tolerance
• Loading, unloading and remnant plan
Frequently Asked Questions
Can one machine cut every open and closed profile?
Not automatically. Suitability depends on clamping, support, software and the verified machine configuration.
Should laser power be the first decision?
No. Workholding, profile range, handling and part acceptance may limit production before source power does.
